The Providing Resources to Enhance Patients’ Readiness to Make Decisions about Kidney Disease (PREPARED) Study is designed to help African-Americans with kidney failure learn about their treatment options. The research is also studying how helpful a financial assistance program is for patients and families who want to get a kidney transplant. Eligible participants will be randomly assigned to one of the following three interventions:
- Usual Care: Participants will receive routine care.
- PREPARED: Patients will receive routine care and the PREPARED educational video and handbook.
- PREPARED-Plus: Patients will receive routine care, the PREPARED educational video and handbook, and living donor financial assistance program materials.
Video Premiere
Video participants, video producers, members of the PREPARED study research team, and study Principal Investigator, Dr. Ebony Boulware, gather for a photo at the premiere of the video. The PREPARED video shows what it’s like for real patients to live on the various types of kidney treatments.
